Funded by the Spanish Foundation called “Nous Cims”, to the tune of 239,137 euros; i.e. approximately 156,863,000 FCFA and for a period of 36 months (December 2024 – November 2027), the Project to Improve the learning environment in the Department of Saint-Louis for the Municipalities of Fass-Ngom and Ndiébene-Gandiol, entitled “Jangalema”, is launched in Saint-Louis. It is implemented by the Diocesan Caritas of Saint-Louis, through the slogan “Together for quality, inclusive and sustainable education!”
The communes of FassNgom and NdiébèneGandiol, specifically the village of Keur Sea Mboye in the commune of Fass-Ngom and the village of Pilote Barre in the commune of Ndiébène-Gandiol, constitute the intervention areas of the said project. Its targets are children, in particular students from schools in these two municipalities. This project aims to contribute to an equitable, inclusive and sustainable education system. The goal is to allow students in these schools to live in an environment favorable to their well-being and development.
It will also involve working to ensure that the technical and pedagogical capacities of teachers in targeted schools are strengthened; that local mechanisms for promoting education and child protection in the project intervention area are functional; that the communities in the project intervention area and their organizations are made aware and involved in the promotion of quality education and the protection of their children, and finally that the accessibility of schools is improved and made secure for polarized hamlets .
The ceremony was chaired by the Sub-Prefect of the Rao District, in the presence of municipal authorities. The objective is to promote the theory of change and the synergy of the educational community in the implementation of the “Jangalema” project. It is also a question of sharing the territorial orientations and the theory of change with the participants and of presenting the “Jangalema” project to them before its launch. “The ultimate objective is for students to succeed in their studies at school and for wastage or dropping out to become an old memory. This is why we want to mobilize communities for school. The project also aims to promote student access to infrastructure and equipment to create an environment favorable to good quality education in a sustainable manner,” said Moussa Fall, known as Dean Fall of the Diocesan Caritas of Saint-Louis, also coordinator of this project.
According to him, the choice of the two targeted schools is not accidental. “Since it is the Saint-Louis department that interests the partner, it was necessary to carry out pilot projects. In Keur Sea Mboye, it is an area where agriculture and livestock take precedence, unlike Pilote Barre which remains a fishing area. So on the basis of these two schools, we can claim a projection in the Saint-Louis department.
