The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, inaugurated the Diamniadio Vaccinopôle on Friday, a significant step towards the health sovereignty of Senegal, carried out as part of the MADIBA project.
During the inauguration, President Faye highlighted the need for active collaboration between producers, regulatory agencies, private sector, and research institutions to create an African pharmaceutical ecosystem. This project makes Senegal a key player in the fight against pandemics and in improving health security in Africa.
The Vaccinopôle, with a production capacity of 300 million doses per year, is a major turning point for public health in West Africa.
This infrastructure, which also celebrates the centenary of the Pasteur Institute in Dakar, includes a vaccine manufacturing unit, particularly against Covid-19 and other endemic diseases. It aims to strengthen the pharmaceutical autonomy of the country and Africa, by producing high-quality vaccines locally, thus reducing dependence on imports.
