WOMEN'S EUROLIGUE – Undefeated at home since the start of the season, Basket Landes piled up an eleventh consecutive victory by beating Bourges, 76-73. In the lead from the kick-off, the Landaises resisted the Berruyer returns to achieve a precious victory.
French survivors in the second round of theEuroLeague, Basketball Landes et Bourges launched this new phase by confronting theEspace François-Mitterrand. The results of the first round having been counted, the two clubs approached this meeting with a similar record (4V-2L), and therefore an already important stake.
Bad start, Bourges picks up at the break
From the outset, the Landaises are put into orbit by a big external address. Clarince Djalbi-Tabdi (14 points), twice, and Destiny Slocumhit the mark, and immediately stuck 11-2 to the absent Tango (11-2). With rebound, and by limiting lost balls, Bourges will gradually return to its match, benefiting from the Landes difficulties in finding solutions in the interior sector. The latter will finally achieve this at the end of the first quarter, notably via a striking Myriam Djekoundadein order to maintain a two possession lead after ten minutes (23-17).
If they are kneaded inside by the omnipresence ofArtemis Spanou on the rebound, the Landaises take particular care of the ball, thus limiting opposing transitions. A real luxury to fend off increasingly pressing Tangos. The match remained constantly under two possessions, without Bourges managing to gain the upper hand. The fault in particular is a new excellent passage of Destiny Slocum. But Berruyer's efforts will ultimately be rewarded thanks to a Laëtitia Guapo who set the sights from afar, snatching the equalizer in the process (37-37). But thanks to a huge performance from the inevitable Slocum, it was the Montoises who finished the first act in the lead (42-39).
Basket Landes collapses, Bourges misses the mark
The return from the locker room resembles a real trench war, caused by two stifling defenses. If access to the circles is closed, the Landaises find the fault halfway, before setting fire. In a few seconds, Destiny Slocum et Leila Lacan punish Berruyer errors (53-43). Smelling the smell of blood, the daughters of Julie Barennes did not relax their grip, and reversed the balance of power inside by outrageously dominating the rebound. Without a solution, the Tango are at the breaker, and find a semblance of skill to avoid completely sinking at the end of the third quarter (64-52). That's what it takes to resist the Landes fury, symbolized by insolent percentages (56% shooting, 60% at three points).
If the Berruyères let ammunition slip away at the start of the fourth quarter, like an unusual 0/2 on the lineArtemis SpanouBasket Landes sees its address falter. If Clarince Djalbi-Tabdi continues its work at three points, the Tango are reboosted, and pushing. The latter gradually returned, seeing the Landes concede seven turnovers in just eight minutes, while they had only lost three on the way until then! Bourges returns to -5, but misses several important shots to go under possession. A clumsiness which will be fatal since Tima Pouye will end more than three minutes of drought to get back to three points (74-71). Then it is already too late.
By making a rounded back, Basketball Landes holds an extremely valuable victory in this second phase ofEuroLeague Women (76-73) and moves into the Top 3 of the group. The Mons club also continued its flawless performance at home (11 victories), and beat its rival for the second time this season.
