The accident took place around five a.m., Wednesday December 11, 2024, on the RD 142 in Saussay (Seine-Maritime). The truck driver was still trapped in his cabin when he called for help. The truck contained 9,000 liters of fuel oil. Closed for a few hours, the road was reopened.

A 52-year-old driver, trapped inside his heavy goods vehicle, called Seine-Martime emergency services around 5 a.m. Following a traffic accident, his tanker overturned on its side on the forest road from Veules-les-Roses, in Saussay.
Due to the 9,000 liters of fuel oil contained in the tank, 21 firefighters including a team specializing in chemical risks were immediately dispatched. To prevent the vehicle from catching fire, seven machines equipped with a foam lance were also mobilized.
In fact, emergency services noticed a significant leak from the tank when they arrived. At 10:30 a.m., firefighters reported that“a sectorization was organized on the ground”. Three sectors were created: unloading, pollution, and health support for those involved. Recovery and cleaning will be carried out by the Halbourg company.
An environmental impact assessment was carried out by VEOLIA concerning the Limésy water treatment plant. The Regional Health Agency has been notified and an assessment will be carried out after cleaning.
At 1:15 p.m., the heavy goods vehicle lifting operations were completed. However, cleaning of the roadway and recovery of polluted materials was still in progress.
On site, the victim, unharmed, was treated.
Departmental road 142 was briefly diverted onto route 124, the commune of Saussay announced on social networks.
The traffic axis remained closed until 6 p.m. while cleaning and pumping operations took place. Traffic was able to resume at the end of the day, confirmed the Seine-Maritime prefecture.
