Senegal with star Mbaye Niang for the Qualifiers?

Reigning African champion, Senegal is preparing to begin the defense of its title in the final round of qualifying for CHAN-2025. The local Lions will face Liberia on December 22 in a decisive first leg match. Under the leadership of their coach Souleymane Diallo, the national team has been training for several weeks to meet this challenge.

The big news this year lies in the rule introduced by CAF, authorizing teams to include players playing in any African championship. A development that could raise the level of competition and offer an advantage to Senegal, which has a vast reservoir of talent scattered across the continent.

An enriched selection

Traditionally reserved for local players playing in their own country, this new rule allows Senegal to strengthen its team with renowned players. Among them, the former AC Milan striker Mbaye Niangwho is currently shining at Wydad Athletic Club in the Moroccan championship, is expected to become one of the leading figures of the local Lions.

Another potential reinforcement is the goalkeeper Alioune Badara – The Best Of Alioune Badaraplaying at TP Mazembé in DR Congo, and who is already among the winners of CAN 2022 and the previous CHAN. Other players, like Mouhamed Diaméformer captain of the A team and current member of Étoile Metlaoui in Tunisia, could also bring their experience.
