a school built in Tanzania thanks to soldiers from the Ventiseri base

When we met them in September, when they were preparing their expedition to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the three friends did not yet know if they would be able to keep the bets they had made. There were several. The first was to climb Kilimanjaro. And while we're at it, even if it means going to Africa, we might as well bring a little solidarity there.

“We wanted to raise money to support building a school at Usa River in the province of Arushaindicates Lucas Allain. Our objective was therefore to help the Development Assistance Association for Young Tanzanians (AADJT), created by a Frenchman, Damien Sellier, who lives there. The AADJT plans to build a new school which will accommodate a larger number of schoolchildren in an environment more suited to their education and development.”

“The majority of donations come from Corsican companies”

During our interview, the soldiers had collected €3,000. “It was already a nice sum but afterwards there was a real outpouring of solidarity, which brought our contribution to this school to €7,000”, he continues. A significant amount. “The majority of donations come from Corsican companies. We have also received checks from firefighters' associations on the Continent, since one of us is a firefighter in Solenzara as well.”

A sum which still made it possible to build the structural work and the roof of this new nursery school. “The class was held in precarious premises which could no longer be used, confides Lucas Allain. It’s a real pride for us to have contributed to this.”

And the work continues and seems to be going well. “We regularly check in with the news and, at present, they are in the process of installing the electrical and finishing touches. It should therefore not be long before the school welcomes its first students.”

The military would like to thank all partners. “In the end, it’s all thanks to them. We started with an idea but it was they who made it happen. For our part, we keep an indelible memory of it,” concludes Lucas Allain.
