In the early morning of December 3, five people were arrested in the Ardennes. They are suspected of having been part of a “local team of experienced criminals”, as indicated by the Ardennes gendarmerie on its social networks this Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
This team has committed several burglaries in the Rethel, Revin or Vouziers sectors since the start of 2024. Both homes and businesses have been targeted. Some of the homes targeted were those of people who had recently died or were placed in retirement homes.
The total damage is around 90,000 euros, specifies the gendarmerie. Jewelry, money, weapons and motorcycles are among the stolen goods. This is also the case for vehicles, used to commit thefts before being set on fire.
The investigation by the Rethel and Revin research brigades, carried out under the direction of the Charleville-Mézières public prosecutor's office, led to a series of arrests on December 3. Around sixty gendarmes were mobilized for this operation. During the searches, stolen items were discovered.
The five arrested are involved “to varying degrees in more than thirty crimes (burglaries, theft of vehicles and various goods, destruction by fire of several of the stolen vehicles)”details the gendarmerie. At the end of their police custody, on December 5, these people were placed in pre-trial detention.
