Road collisions, overturned gardens, disemboweled dog, wild boars terrorize a small town in !

Multiple nuisances and cascading accidents
For several months, the town of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres (3,100 inhabitants), in , on the edge of , has been the victim of daily incursions of wild boars into residential areas and the presence of several companies in the surrounding woods causes unbearable nuisance for the population. As our colleagues from Bleu report, the list of accidents and nuisances with suidae is starting to lengthen significantly: overturned gardens, destroyed fences, multiple road collisions (three, last week alone!) and attacks by domestic animals (last March, a resident's small dog was disemboweled by a wild boar and only owed its survival to the rapid intervention of the veterinarian).

Only one solution: hunts operated by local hunters

Faced with this situation of extreme danger and nuisance for the population, the mayor of the town, Sylvie Barrieu-Vignal, called on local hunters to carry out hunts in certain peri-urban areas of the town, particularly near the stadium. , to hunt wild boars. The first of these hunts takes place today, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and nearly fifteen shooters will be stationed to try to take as many of these animals as possible. The town hall explained to our colleagues that, while it understood that some were upset by this solution, for security reasons, it had “no choice”. Indeed, madam, faced with the proliferation of wild boars and their increasingly intrusive behavior, including in urban areas, only a significant increase in samples can provide an effective response.
