The Haute-Savoie prefecture is launching a call for applications to renew its louveterie lieutenants for the period 2025-2029. These volunteer administration employees play a crucial role in regulating wildlife and protecting livestock activities.
The main mission of the louveterie lieutenants is to implement pest control operations on orders from the administration. In Haute-Savoie, their role is particularly important within the framework of the national action plan on wolves and breeding activities.
These sworn agents can also report hunting police violations. Appointed by the prefect for a period of 5 years, they are placed under the authority of the departmental director of territories (DDT).
A specific profile combining hunting skills and human qualities
To become a scout lieutenant, candidates must meet several criteria:
- – Be of French nationality and reside in the department or a neighboring canton
- – Be under 75 years old at the time of appointment
- – Have had a hunting license for at least 5 years
- – Demonstrate skills in leading operations and managing conflict situations
- Master basic computer tools
Successful candidates must also undertake to maintain hunting or digging dogs at their own expense, and to assume the financial costs linked to the position. The selection will be made in several stages: pre-selection on CV and cover letter, interview with a jury, and potentially a shooting test with a long weapon.
