A colorful ceremony. The Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Orne celebrated its annual Sainte-BarbeFriday December 6, 2024, at its premises in Alençon.

Seven firefighters of the department were medalists, and five were congratulated.

Among the medal-winning firefighters, two received the internal security medal : the doctor in command Aurore Destréand lieutenant Jerome Brusin both silver level.

The lieutenant Jean-Luc Breynewas awarded the Medal of Honor for exceptional services .

The Firefighters Medal of Honor was handed over to the deputy director Sébastien Planchon,gold level, to the commanding doctor Ahmed Chafaisilver level and finally to nurse lieutenant Siegrid Nehls bronze level.

Congratulatory letters

After the decorations, it was the turn of a presentation of congratulatory letters. Like the medals, they were awarded by the departmental director of SDISColonel Anne Lamaire and by the prefect of Orne Sébastien Jallet.

Remy Lelièvre and Mathieu Betton received a letter of congratulations from the Prefecture and the SDIS, for their speed in taking a call in an accident in February 2024.

Letters were also delivered by the SDIS to Baptiste His et Olivier Lecointe.

For his part, Lieutenant Philippe Coquain received the badge “ gold level prevention specialty”.

21,800 interventions during the year

For this evening, the departmental director took stock of the year, with “ 21 800 interventionsof service” recorded at the beginning of December. This is 3.5% more than in 2023.

Among these interventions, 17,000 correspond to “personal assistance”, carried out by the Samu and the SDIS, “i.e. 78% of operational activity . »

The year 2024 was marked “by multiplesignificant rainy episodes “, notably the floods of January 18 and 19, with “20 to 170 simultaneous interventions”, the stormy episode of July 31 and August 1, totaling nearly 170 interventions, or even more recently the Caetano depression, where the snowy episode mobilized more than 220 firefighters in the department.

This year was also marked by19 lightshomes, professional premises or even agricultural buildings, “with more than 30 firefighters per intervention. »

Ornais on national systems

Some firefighters have left the department to help at national events. 14 of them went to Pas-de- at the time of the floods, from January 13 to 19. Another 54 took turns over three successive periods to strengthen the Indre SDIS teams, on the site of the Olympic shooting events.

What awaits the SDIS for 2025

The President of the Department and Chairman of the SDIS Board of Directors, Christophe de Balorre, announced the acquisition of “two tank trucksof forest”. The delivery of these new vehicles should take place “in the spring”, specifies the president.

The new Gouffern-en-Auge fire and rescue center should be opened next year.

2025 will also be the year of the inauguration of the new SDIS and Samu call center.
