This highlight of the end-of-year celebrations was planned for Saturday, December 7. Due to rain and wind, it was rescheduled for the following weekend.
It is a tradition in the north of France. Each end of the year, the descent of Saint-Nicolas kicks off the festivities. In Cambrai (North), this moment, eagerly awaited by children on the town hall square, was to be held on Saturday December 7 at 5:30 p.m.
“Due to the bad weather forecast for this Saturday, December 7, the Saint Nicolas descent is postponed to Saturday, December 13 at 6 p.m.,” reports the town hall to BFM Grand Lille.
Strong gusts of wind
According to Météo-France, scattered showers are indeed expected throughout the day in Cambrai, as well as gusts of wind blowing at least 45 km/h. Conditions hardly compatible with a descent of the town hall bell tower.
The departure from the North, where the town of Cambrai is located, is placed on yellow alert in the wind by the forecasters. That of the Somme, not far from the town, is classified in orange, also due to wind, and in yellow, due to rain-flooding.
