the essential
After Montauban, it was the turn of Castelsarrasin and Moissac, on the evening of Thursday December 5, 2024, to see farmers converge on public buildings. Always with so much determination.
Republican security company unit, blocks of stone, security gates… The town center of Castelsarrasin did not look like usual, around 10:30 p.m., this Thursday, December 5.
And for good reason, the local authorities were awaiting the arrival of several local farmers who had come to demonstrate in front of the sub-prefecture, from their initial assembly point in Castelmayran.
With memory of the doors of the administrative building walled up by demonstrators last February.
Around forty farmers present
The police let the farmers, numbering around forty, dump a few skips filled with slurry, at the entrance to the city center, in front of rue de la Fraternité.
In the middle of talks with the police, two demonstrators were able to enter the “security perimeter” set up, in order to discuss with the sub-prefect of Castelsarrasin, Pierre Bressolles.

Among them, Jean-Luc, manager of a grain farm in Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave: “Tonight, we all united. We continue our dumpster festival, it’s our lives that are at stake.”
If no agricultural union took responsibility for the demonstration, there were a few among the ranks who belonged to the FDSEA, the Young Farmers or even the Rural Coordination. Others joined the movement as “non-aligned,” some of them say.
But everyone had very specific reasons for expressing their anger. Like Maxime (1), who came to support his brother from Toulouse: “I think the situation is clear. It's shit (Editor's note) for the agricultural world. I think it's okay to follow them. »
“We are not going to let ourselves die without resisting”
As in Montauban on the evening of November 26, farmers again targeted state symbols. The sub-prefecture of Castelsarrasin but also the Public Finance Center of Moissac.
It was in the direction of the Uval city that the demonstrations continued in the evening (2). Not without a certain touch of weariness.

Before all the farmers return to their farms much later in Auvillar or Saint-Loup for example. The skips are lighter than on the way out.
