from Disneyland to or Châtelet, 450 kilometers of direct and secure cycle paths accessible by the end of 2025

VIF, aka the Vélo Île-de- network, must be partly accessible from the end of 2025. It will allow cyclists to go directly from one end of the region to the other, in a secure manner. A total of 750 kilometers of slopes will be built in 2030.

By 2025, 450 kilometers of the Vélo Île-de-France network will emerge from the ground, the first stage in the construction of this set of 11 secure routes for cyclists.

And in total, “750 kilometers” specifies the Île-de-France region will be completed by 2030.

The VIF network, or Vélo Île-de-France, must be built in two stages. The first for 2025 is represented in solid lines, the second for 2030 which appears in dotted lines.

The VIF network, for Vélo Île-de-France, must include two circular lines and 9 other routes which cross all the departments of the region.

In a little less than a year, it will be possible to reach certain towns in the inner suburbs from , entirely by bike. “The ambition is to have a regional bicycle network which allows us to converge, to go towards Paris, a bit like the RER, without interruption, with real bicycle highways, that is to say with specifications extremely strict on the width, on the staking, on the denomination (…) in short, have a real identity“, Stéphane Beaudet, vice-president of the Île-de-France regional council in charge of transport, told us.

A provisional network, pending complete completion. “In the routes there will not be full lines yet. We have good hope of seeing the Paris-" rel="tag">Le Perreux sur Marne part already completed, same thing for Paris-Le Bourget on the old national road 2, Paris-Pierrefitte, Paris-, the route between Vaires-sur-Marne and Val of Europe, but also -Saint-Ouen by ring road, for examples of continuous, secure and comfortable cycling routes, whatever your age and level“, explains Louis Belenfant, director of the Vélo Île-de-France collective.

These bicycle lines, once completed, will follow these axes.

  • Line V1: Le Mesnil-Aubry (Val-d'Oise) / Arpajon (Essonne)
  • Line V2: Vélizy-Villacoublay () / Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (Val-d’Oise)
  • Line V3: Maurepas – La Verrière (Yvelines) / Parc des Expositions (Seine-Saint-Denis) / Claye-Souilly (Seine-et-Marne)
  • Line V4: - (Val-d'Oise) / Marne-la-Vallée Chessy (Seine-et-Marne)
  • Line V5: (Yvelines) / Pontault-Combault (Seine-et-Marne)
  • Line V6: Cergy-Pontoise (Val-d'Oise) / Tournan-en-Brie/Verneuil-l'Étang (Seine-et-Marne)
  • Line V7: Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines) / Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry/ (Seine-et-Marne)
  • Line V8: (Yvelines) / Paris
  • Line V9: Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche (Yvelines) / Paris
  • Line V10: Small belt
  • V20 line: Large belt

The region has set the objective of achieving everything by 2030. This seems largely realistic to me, knowing that many sections of the second phase have been completed or are already under study“, estimates Louis Belenfant. A final objective which will be achieved in six years, but for now, the work is still progressing slowly : “By 2025, phase 1 will not be completed in its entirety. Today, two thirds of this phase have been delivered or are currently under construction. The idea is that by the end of 2025, this first part will be at least 80% accomplished.”

The progress of the project rather satisfies the cycling associations. “The region's commitment is exactly what we asked for. This plan is essential, necessary and meets what Ile-de-France cyclists expect. The Vélo Île-de-France network is a transport network in its own right. Unlike current cycle paths, when you are on a line, it provides safety, comfort and efficiency throughout. So that someone who is not used to cycling can feel good, so that it is obvious to them“, adds this association manager.

However, there remain a few points of difficulty to be resolved, according to this cyclist and association representative. “Some territories still need to mobilize and make efforts. This is the case of Essonne, with the crossing of the Saclay plateau. There is work to be done, particularly in this sector crossed by departmental road 36. In Yvelines, which has not yet launched phase 1 studies, developments remain to be made at the Maisons-Laffite bridge.“, he explains.

More than 170 communities are participating in the development of this Vélo Île-de-France network, the region specifies on its website.
