The prefect of Isère is pinned down by an investigation by our colleagues from Médiapart. Appointed on November 6, 2024, Catherine Séguin was able to send her son to a 3rd grade class at the public middle school of the Cité scolaire international de Grenoble.
Integration into the best educational establishment in the capital of the Alps which would have been facilitated. The prefect's son would not have had to take exams, which were compulsory in this very selective college.
A free pass which is not one for the new prefect of Isère.
“My child could be admitted”
Requested by the editorial staff ofnews Grenoblethe prefect of Isère wanted to provide an answer. Catherine Séguin particularly mentions the short time frame for moving: “I was appointed to the Council of Ministers on November 6 and the move from Beauvais to Grenoble had to be completed in less than three weeks.”
It is in this context that the senior civil servant had to send her son to school in 9th grade. The prefect of Isère explains that she had “an exchange with the principal of the establishment on Friday November 22 to discuss the terms of my son’s registration”.
It was very clearly indicated to me that, in the case of registration during the year, my child could be admitted to the establishment for educational continuity, but that integration within the international section could only intervene after passing an exam in April.
In the memory of teachers at the establishment, such rapid integration during the year without taking a test is a first, according to testimonies collected by Médiapart.
No admission to the international section
Among the tense points raised by the revelations of our colleagues, integration into the international section of the Grenoble college.
All of the establishment's students follow education with the aim of obtaining the national international diploma. An option which requires passing this famous entry test.
“The rules thus laid down by the management of the establishment are obviously imposed on me with regard to a reception carried out to avoid a break in the school year during the year, in conditions which in no way guarantee the Admission to the international section which remains dependent on successful completion of the language level exam. There is therefore no facility that would be granted, which I understand and approve of perfectly,” replies Catherine Séguin.
