A young firefighter killed in a collision, fourth fatal accident in a week in Tarn

Four fatal accidents in one week, nine deaths in just over two weekstwelve deaths in two months… Whatever the way these statistics are taken, they reflect a real slaughter on the roads of Tarn lately.

Tuesday December 3, 2024, at midday, it is a 21 year old woman who died in a collision with a truck on the RD612 in Vénès in the south of the department.

“Very seriously injured, she was quickly taken care of by a crew of firefighters supported by a Samu medical team. Despite the medical procedures carried out, she unfortunately died,” explains the Tarn Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis 81).

Barbara was a student and volunteer firefighter. She was assigned to the main emergency center in Castres.

She was committed since 2022 to the departmental corps, after three years in the young firefighters section of Castres, specifies Sdis 81.

It has been a real massacre since the start of the year on the roads of Tarn, where 31 deaths have already been recorded. Sunday December 1, 2024, a 35-year-old motorist was killed in Castres. On the night of Wednesday November 27 to Thursday November 28, after a nighttime accident in Le Garric, north of Albi, a body was discovered outside the car. Tuesday, November 26, a young man of 19 died in a road accident in Fraysse.

And the inhabitants of Tarn also remember the terrible accident which occurred on Sunday November 17, near Gaillacwhere five young people aged 16 to 20 died in terrible circumstances.

Two weeks ago, the new prefect of Tarn, Laurent Buchaillat, already warned about the very poor road safety figures in the department.
