“No to the destruction of the Carcraon pond “. This is the message that opponents of the project to erase the 90 hectare body of water located south of Glazed (Ille-et-Vilaine).
Tuesday, December 3, a fifty people– mainly fishermen and local residents – demonstrated loudly in front of the Orangerie in Châteaugiron (Ille-et-Vilaine).
The solution of erasure provokes a reaction
It was here, in the premises of Eaux et Vilaine, that a meeting was held with the Ille-et-Vilaine Fishing FederationGaul Guerchaise, the sub-prefect and mayors.
A “private” meeting which the press was not able to attend, but which aimed to bring together the different actors on the subject in order to discuss the pond problems.
This concerns in particular the mass of water presented in “ poor ecological status » by the Ille-et-Vilaine Fishing Federation, 75% owner of the pond. The rest (25%) belonging to La Gaule Guerchaise, the local fishing association.
In an interview given to Vitré's Journal a few weeks ago, the president of the Federation, Jérémy Grandièredefended “the ecological issue” and mentioned the solution of erasure in order to “reconquer the body of water”.
An announcement which did not fail to provoke a reaction from local fishermen, residents and those attached to the pond.
“We only talk about erasure and present no other solution to us,” gets annoyed. the Carcraon environment association, presents Tuesday in front of the premises of Eaux et Vilaine.
On the ecological state of the body of water, the members of Carcraon environment would like to have “figures and analyses. The latest data found dates from 2017.”
“It hurts my heart”
The association, which was not invited to the meeting, is now waiting to be presented with a “well-crafted project”.
For her, the erasure would have significant repercussions on those who benefit from the body of water, in particular local residents and fishermen.
“We are not going to make an 800-year-old pond disappear! », exclaims the association which hopes to have “the support of elected officials” in its fight.
On Tuesday, many fishermen were also present. Some had signs in their hands on which one could read “Angry fishermen” or “No dead fish in Carcraon”.
“It hurts my heart. It’s outrageous,” begins one of them. This fisherman from La Gaule Guerchaise is one of the owners of a cabin. There are about 150 around the pond.
There is no pollution. This is totally ridiculous. We hear about false buttercup (a species of invasive plant), but they are everywhere. For siltation, this makes sense because the outlet is higher than the river bottom.
At his side, a retired couple also expresses sadness at the erasure project.
“My husband takes photos and he has seen kingfisher. This bird is an indicator of water quality. We also see the osprey,” says this resident of La Guerche who regularly comes for a walk in Carcraon with her grandchildren.
The decision will be up to the owners
Before the meeting begins, the sub-prefectGilles Traimondcame to talk with the demonstrators. “The State's concern is the quality of the water,” insisted the state representative on the territory. He also announced that transparency will be made on the file.
The sub-prefect also recalled that the decision on the future of the pond will fall to the owners, the Ille-et-Vilaine Fishing Federation and Gaule Guerchaise.
Studies must be carried out to have precise data on the state of the pond (read box).
“No solution has been decided to date”
In a press release sent at the end of the day, Eaux & Vilaine explains the outlines of the meeting on Tuesday, December 3.
“A meeting was held on the water bodies of Carcraon and Marcillé Robert so that the main stakeholders in the area could discuss what could be done to avoid an ecological impasse. The ecological situation of water bodies is very degraded. The owners of water bodies, the State and local authorities want to take responsibility and not just look elsewhere. They agreed to undertake studies in order to take stock of the situation scientifically and seriously. »
These studies, carried out by Eaux et Vilaine, will take place over a period of 18 to 24 months. History and landscape impact will be taken into account.
“From assessing the situation, it will be necessary to move on to analyzing the causes, which can be multiple. And sometimes it takes an entire annual cycle to understand how an environment works. »
In the analysis results, there will probably be “several intersecting causes” which will explain the degraded state of the water bodies concerned.
Eaux et Vilaine explains “that no solution has been decided to date and all scenarios will be studied in consultation and transparency with the stakeholders”.
Eaux et Vilaine concludes: “In the interest of water quality, wildlife and those who live with this body of water, we must take the matter head on. In the context of climate change, to do nothing is certainly to condemn the environment and everything that lives there. All participants have the objective of improving water quality and biodiversity. »
