The staff of the Joliot-Curie college in Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis) have had the right to withdraw since Monday, December 2 and the establishment has been closed since Tuesday in the middle of the day, after one of their colleagues was seriously injured by the fall of a window within the college, announces all the staff in a press release.

“Monday December 2, 2024, following a service accident that seriously injured a colleague, we, the staff of the Joliot-Curie college in Stains, exercised the right to withdraw due to serious and imminent danger,” they write. “A window of more than two meters fell on one of our colleagues”they explain. This woman was hospitalized “in serious condition”specifies the press release.

“At 3 p.m. the same day, we therefore decided to exercise our right of withdrawal, considering that the situation was dangerous for staff and students”. According to college staff, “technicians were sent by the department to seal 37 other windows of the same type”.

A meeting also took place on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. between college staff and representatives of the academic management and the Seine-Saint-Denis department council. “This meeting confirmed the dangerous situation which was the subject of our alert. The investigation has been carried out and we are awaiting written commitments confirming the replacement of the windows in question”.

“Our college, like many others in Seine-Saint-Denis, is in a disastrous state”continue the college staff. “This is not the first time that we have drawn attention to degraded buildings and more generally to our working conditions”. The establishment remained open until Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. “For the moment, no repair schedule has been provided and the staff remains awaiting an official declaration attesting to a project to secure the establishment”ends the press release.
