Will snow finally be able to kick off the ski season in the Alps? Faced with too little snowfall, certain mid-altitude resorts in Isère were forced to postpone their launch of the 2024 – 2025 winter season.

Impatiently awaited since the last snowfall in mid-November, the flakes are announced in the plains of Isère and in the Alps from Saturday December 7.

Here is the weather forecast for the next few days.

Snow from Saturday

The days of Wednesday December 4 and Thursday December 5 will be marked by pleasant weather conditions since the sun will be present in the sky of Isère. Temperature-wise, the mercury should not exceed 6°C.

From Friday, a depression will move across the entire department bringing showers and a rise in temperatures.

It is during the night of Saturday December 7 to Sunday December 8 that the first snowflakes should appear in Isère, particularly in Villard-de-Lans and Valljoufrey.

Heavy snowfall in southern Isère

If the precise quantities of snow are not yet certain, meteorological data from Météo France ensures that several centimeters of snow are forecast in Isère on Sunday, December 8.

Snowfall will be concentrated south of the Grenoble metropolitan area. The snowflakes will fall on the plains in the areas of Theys, Villard-de-Lans, La Mure and Bourg d'Oisans.

Snowflakes at very low altitude

From Monday, December 9, snowfall will be observed over almost the entire department. From Tour-du-Pin to Saint-Marcellin via Côte-Saint-André, snow should fall in significant quantity in the plain.

This will also be the case in the Grésivaudan valley, south of Grenoble, but not in the capital of the Alps.

After this date, a calm will be noted with the return of sunny weather.
