The CFDT announces that it is leaving the social network X (formerly Twitter), a place of “too much hatred”

On X, the exodus continues. This Tuesday, December 3, 2024, it is the turn of the CDFT, the first union in in all sectors, to announce its departure “from this afternoon” the social network bought by Elon Musk in 2022.

“We consider that there is too much hatred and not enough moderation and regulation on this social network, so we do not wish to continue to express ourselves there”explains its general secretary, Marylise Léon, in a final message published this morning.

The CFDT is the first French union to leave X. Since November 5 and the American presidential election, personalities (Stephen King and the actress Alyssa Milano, who helped launch the #MeToo movement), companies ( Best Buy, Target) and media (The Guardian, The Vanguard) from all over the world have said they no longer publish anything on the social network.

A still timid exodus in France

In France, press titles (West France, South West) and NGOs (Sea Shepherd, Greenpeace) have announced that they are leaving the platform, much criticized for its lack of moderation, or suspending their publications. An exodus that is still timid, but which reflects a growing distrust of X.

“Committed to democratic values, peaceful debate and the fight against disinformation and harassment”, West France took this decision to protest “against the lack of regulation and moderation of the platform” .
