All the Cafés Querry staff are busy in the store a few hours before its reopening. For almost seven months, the store had been relocated to a business opposite theirs, due to reconstruction work after the accident. On May 7, 2024, a truck ended its journey in the business, destroying a large part of the premises. Last July, the Querry couple were worried about not being able to open before the holidays. Finally, the store reopened its doors this Saturday, November 30.
“The feeling is mixed”
Navigating between the garnished baskets and the Christmas dishes, Stéphane still struggles to hide his fatigue. “The feeling is mixed,” he confides about the reopening, “it’s been a lot of energy spent to get back to where we started.”
In the store, no big changes compared to before the accident. Some rearrangements were made, but nothing more. A novelty all the same: the refrigerated display allowing them to offer local products.
Laurence Querry also reports great fatigue. “We are exhausted before Christmas,” she admits. Because beyond the financial side, the couple gave up nothing to open their store on time. Stéphane and Laurence had no choice but to bang their fists on the table in the hope of opening in December. Despite these difficult times, Laurence is optimistic, “all the staff are ready and motivated for our return, and we are here!” », she says with a smile.

Making up for lost time
With the drama behind them, Stéphane and Laurence are now ready to move forward. “We will turn the page quietly,” says Stéphane Querry. From now on, the focus is on the holidays, with the priority being making up for lost time following the accident. The couple also plans to open certain Sundays before Christmas. Coffee, tea, delicatessens, tableware and even local produce… The couple finally has the space to once again offer a wide choice of products.
