In Belgium, the services of women and men who prostitute themselves are now governed by an employment contract, like any other worker. And as such benefit from associated social benefits: retirement, unemployment, maternity leave and social security. This is a world first, coming into force on December 1st.
“We would never have dared to dream that we would already be here today,” Daan Bauwens of Utsopi, the Belgian union of sex workers, told Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie, the group Dutch-speaking public broadcaster in Belgium.
