Leader, by far, of paper information in the Cotentin, La Presse de la Manche also widens the gaps in digital technology. With nearly 5.4 million visits in November 2024 on its website installed on the actu.fr platform, the daily recorded a new record.

“This success comes after having redefined our digital objectives,” says Chrismaël Marchand, deputy editor-in-chief of The Press.

This year, we have changed the way our web center and our editorial staff operate. The idea was to be as close as possible to the information, while being as relevant and effective as possible in terms of time.

New organization

To carry out these changes, it was therefore necessary to put in place a new organization within the editorial staff, which has 28 journalists. The web center was first strengthened.

You should know that since the creation of the current site in 2017, every day of the year, from Monday to Sunday, including public holidays, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., there is at least one person in the editorial office to put articles online in real time. These journalists carry out correction, publication and sharing work on social networks. A specific work which requires a lot of reactivity.

“Since this summer, we have also set up a position dedicated to hot news,” continues Chrismaël Marchand. We asked the entire editorial team to be even more responsive. From now on, journalists write their articles primarily in web format, before using them for the printed newspaper version. It is an evolution, in keeping with the times, which explains the excellent figures of actu.fr – La Presse. »

Paid articles

In one year, the audience gain is 30%. It comes at a time when everyday life has undergone another major change. “Since October 2023, we have launched the project of monetization of our website,” explains David Capelle, deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper.

Every day we publish about a third of paid articles. This content written by our team of journalists and correspondents has strong added value.

The newspaper's web center is in charge of deciding which content is paid for, with the aim of generating subscriptions. It is important to have a good balance. Practical information and news items remain free.

“Clearly, the move to a third of paid articles has not harmed our audience, on the contrary,” notes Valentin Groult, sales manager of the newspaper. The site works well, and its scores also reflect the dynamism of our territory. We have a readership that is renewing itself. »

New subscribers

Since the arrival of paid itemssubscriptions on the actu.fr site are in full developmentaround a hundred per month. The stronger the audience, the more new subscribers there are proportionally. More than ever, the future of La Presse de la Manche is written on paper and online.
