Macouria is holding its Exotic Christmas market this December 5

The Chanté Nwel started a few weeks ago. A sign that Christmas is fast approaching, a celebration very popular with families. Christmas markets have developed over the past two decades in Guyana and the town of Macouria is organizing its own this December 5. This is the 8th edition of the Exotic Christmas Market.

Associations, craftsmen and salespeople have busy schedules for this month of December with the multiplication, among other events, of Christmas markets. That of Macouria takes place this December 5 and as Synthia Sully, responsible for Cultural Affairs of the city, explains: “…It’s the 8the Christmas market organized in Macouria with the sharing of the soup kitchen and around this action events for all audiences. For children, we have planned games and various podium activities… On the Christmas market part, craftsmen will be present as is the case for the usual market which is held every Thursday in Tonate. This week adds the specificity of Christmas and therefore in addition to the usual exhibitors who sell fruit and vegetables and butchery, other exhibitors will offer Christmas gifts and everything related to preparing a Christmas table. »

This will be the time for parents to bring their children to witness the arrival of Santa Claus which will be followed by performances from the three invited groups for the “ Christmas carol », Raché Pliché, Branché Débranché and the Cultural Association of Saint Lucia.

This event will take place between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.. Among the associations that responded to the municipality's invitation was that of the Kamuyeneh village. Basketry specialists are already at work and preparing the various articles which have made the reputation of the Amerindian art very appreciated in Guyana.
