This weekend, the MEDays forum ended in Morocco. On this occasion, the President of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, raised the issue of Mayotte, citing the recent cases of the Chagos Islands and Western Sahara to support his country's demands.
“Territorial dispute”
The international forum MEDaysclosed this Saturday, November 30 in Morocco, was the opportunity for the Comorian president Azali Assoumani to approach Mayotte. He emphasized his “territorial dispute with France on the Comorian island of Mayotte” as part of the central theme of this 16th edition: 'Sovereignty and Resilience: towards a new global balance'.
The president also cited a “model of wisdom”in reference to the recent agreement between London and Mauritius for the restitution of the Chagos Islands, reports Mayotte 1ère. He linked this situation to the regional example of Western Sahara, a territory administered by Morocco but legally contested since 1976. Although the Comoros often mention Mayotte during international forums, this subject remains absent from regular discussions with France.
