The French overwhelmingly judge the country to be “in decline”, according to an annual Ipsos-Sopra Steria survey published Monday.
Purchasing power remains their primary concern.
Regarding the answers to be given, almost a third of them want a new dissolution of the National Assembly.
This is an issue considered a priority, except among supporters of the right-wing Les Républicains (LR) party. “Difficulties in terms of purchasing power” remain the primary concern of the French who overwhelmingly (38%) place it at the top, according to an annual Ipsos-Sopra Steria* survey published Monday. Asked about the issues that concern them most “personally”the latter place behind purchasing power, “environmental protection” (23%) et “the level of delinquency (22%), according to this survey on “French fractures” pour The Worldthe Sciences Po Political Research Center (Cevipof) the Jean-Jaurès Foundation and the Montaigne Institute.
However, supporters of the right-wing Les Républicains (LR) party are primarily concerned about “level of delinquency” (34%) while among supporters of the National Rally, it is above all “the level of immigration” (50%) which takes priority.
“Horrified by the events of extreme violence”
Another lesson from this survey, France “is in decline” for nearly nine out of ten French people (87%, 18 points more compared to the presidential election in 2017). “The French are horrified, even paralyzed, by the events of extreme violence that they witness, live or through the media,” analyzes Brice Teinturier, Deputy Managing Director of Ipsos. But 53% of them consider that this “is not irreversible”. And only 3% of French people say they “satisfied or appeased” when asked about their feeling of belonging to an “angry and very anti-establishment” country.

While France has been living in a climate of political crisis for six months and the early legislative elections which have not produced a majority, nearly a third of French people (31%) mention among the responses to bring a new dissolution of the National Assembly after that decided on June 9 while 52% of them are in favor of the resignation of Emmanuel Macron.
*The survey was carried out online from November 14 to 21, with a sample of 3,000 people aged 18 and over, using the quota method.
