Marie-Morgue Sieber grew up with her two older sisters in Beblenheim, near Ribeauvillé. She was trained to AS Ribeauvilléwhere she rubbed shoulders with boys between the ages of 8 and 12. After a season in the women's team at Racing Holtzwihr -Wickerschwihrshe decided at 13 to follow a double course.
During the week, the goalkeeper studies and trains in Strasbourg (in the sports section of the Jean Monnet middle school and high school in Strasbourg then at the Pôle Espoirs) and on weekends and during school holidays, she plays on the other side from the Rhine to Freiburg.
Training between Strasbourg and Friborg
“I left quite young, but it showed that I had ambition, remembers Marie-Morgue Sieber. I wanted to give everything to try to achieve my dream. In the end, it's a choice that I don't regret at all because it allowed me to discover a lot of things, whether at the football level, for the rigor, the very athletic profile that is known in Germany. But also on a human level, I discovered another culture, another language at a very young age. It allowed me to adapt, to succeed in integrating.”
To help young girls progress, they are committed in under-15s in a boys' championship. “From an athletic point of view, it was very interesting, remembers Haut-Rhinoise. And it brought me a lot, because we defended a lot and as a goalkeeper, I was in high demand.”
After a passage of a year each timeu FC Vendenheim and Racing club Strasbourg (for the club's first season in D2), Marie-Morgue Sieber chose exile to gain playing time and experience. She goes to guard the cages Rodez who goes up to the first division, before immediately going down. Then head to Brittany. She has been playing for two seasons at En Avant Guingamp.
This atypical career path and the fact of playing in a “small” elite club did not prevent the goalkeeper from being called up twice already to the France A team by the new coach. Laurent Bonadei.
“There is no standard path to get there because otherwise we would already know the future players of the France team, smiles Marie-Morgane Sieber. I always said that I played for fun and because I wanted to progress. So I made my choices along those lines. And today it opened a few doors for me for the French team, so I’m very happy about it.”
An immense happiness
Marie-Morgue Sieber admits that her first call-up to the Bleues in October moved her: “The French team, we think about it, we have it in the back of our minds, but until it happens, it remains like a somewhat distant ambition. So obviously, the first list is is very surprising. It's a lot of emotion, a lot of pride, but it still remains that way on the next call-up. It's always a great pleasure to be able to say that we're going to represent France and wear the rooster. on the jersey.
Even though she is already playing her third season in the elite of French women's football, Marie-Morgane Sieber has moved to another universe among the Blues. “Technically, physically, everything is a notch above what I have known, she explains. Everything goes faster. So we get into the rhythm of gathering the other girls and inevitably that raises our level.”
Marie-Morgue Sieber describes herself as a goalkeeper who likes duels against attackers and making saves on her line. She now devotes herself exclusively to football after combining sport and studies. She obtained a Staps license with an adapted physical activities mention. : “I continued after the baccalaureate for three years to go to class, to have sports practices alongside football, to have homework, exams. It was a high pace, but for me and my parents, it “was very important. We don't know when football can stop, so we have to provide some luggage behind it.”
Proud to be Alsatian
At the start of the season, Marie-Morgue Sieber has already faced and beaten Racing Club de Strasbourg, in a match full of twists and turns (3-2 for Guingamp). If the question is not current, it does not exclude one day wearing the jersey of the club from your region which is now playing in Arkema Premier League. “I do not exclude any possibility in my future career, she explains. Obviously, I was very happy to see Racing move up to D1. It's always a special feeling to play against them. And if one day the opportunity presents itself, maybe I will play again with the blue and white jersey. But at the moment, that’s not the case.”
Like Jonathan Clauss among the boys, Marie-Morgane Sieber is proud to represent Alsace in the French football team. “Yes, I am very proud to be Alsatian, she asserts. I am happy to be able to represent this region at the highest French level and I am fighting to show everyone that Alsace is very pretty. I also keep the mentality that we have at home of always going to war, it is reflected in my way of being and my way of playing.
For the moment, Marie-Morgue Sieber has watched the Bleues' matches from the sidelines. His next challenge, “in the medium or long term”, is to celebrate his first selection for the French team. The French women challenge the Spanish world champions in a friendly match this Tuesday, December 3 in Nice.
