With 73 agents available 24 hours a day and 27 specialized machines, the winter plan aims to guarantee the safety of users and maintain optimal traffic conditions on the 3,528 km of departmental roads.
The 2024-2025 winter system in the Meuse mobilizes considerable resources. Of the 275 agents in the Roads and Development Department, 73 are on call every week, ready to intervene at any time. Equipped with 27 winter service machines, including salt spreaders and robots, these teams constantly monitor road conditions using 4 strategically placed weather stations and 10 patrol boats.
This organization allows rapid and targeted interventions in the event of snow or ice. The site inforoutes.meuse.fr plays a central role in this system, offering users regular updates on traffic conditions. The information is updated from 7 a.m. Monday to Saturday, and 8 a.m. Sunday, with updates every 4 hours in the event of interventions.
Snow Removal Strategy: A Prioritized Action Plan
Faced with the impossibility of simultaneously treating the entire road network, the Department has established a system of priorities based on the importance of the axes and socio-economic needs:
1. Priority 1 (710 km): Main roads covered in 2.5 to 3 hours.
2. Priority 2 (527 km): Opening up of towns and major activities.
3. Priority 3 (1,165 km): Access to each municipality within 24 hours.
4. Priority 4 (420 km): Processing within 2 working days
This strategic approach makes it possible to optimize resources and ensure effective coverage of the Meuse road network, while taking into account logistical and budgetary constraints.
