In October 2024, it was a patrol of roads officers from the Department who observed a subsidence on half of the roadway of the RD 47, at the Bauvron bends between the town of Saint-André-des-Eaux and the hamlet of Sandun, towards Saint-Lyphard
explains the Departmental Council in a press release. The cause is the collapse of a hydraulic structure following the floods. For the Department, there was a potential risk of collapse due to car traffic
.
Because this departmental road is very busy. Although this portion is prohibited for heavy goods vehicles, it can support weekday traffic of up to 8,000 vehicles per day: this route takes workers living in La Brière towards Saint-Nazaire.
The replacement of the sagging structure with a prefabricated frame bridge was therefore urgently ordered: it will take place between December 4 and 13, 2024. This work will require the complete closure of the lane in both directions of traffic. .
Road lights vandalized three times
When the collapse was noticed, the Department put in place temporary danger signs to prohibit traffic on the half-carriageway concerned and an alternation of lights to regulate traffic. Unfortunately, on three occasions, the alternating lights were vandalized, making them impossible to use. The Department no longer has operational lights on this road sector and it is likely that new lights would also be damaged or stolen
indicates the Department.
Also, faced with the impossibility of re-establishing an alternating schedule and while waiting for the start of the construction site, the Department's road services have established a one-way traffic flow on the passable half-road (i.e. in the direction of Saint- Lyphard towards Saint-André-des-Eaux). A diversion has been put in place for vehicles going in the other direction: it passes through Tréhé and Le Guisiot. This one-way diversion is the only possible solution because the Department cannot manage this hazard on the roadway by alternating with lights following the multiple damages.
. This work will cost €18,000.
