two dead in a squat, victims of carbon monoxide

Two men died of carbon monoxide poisoning in an unfinished building in Noisy-le-Sec (Seine-Saint-Denis), occupied by many homeless and undocumented people, where a brazier had been lit, we learned from a police source.

Neither the age nor the nationality of the two victims could be specified by this source, who confirmed information from the newspaper Le Parisien.

The police evacuated around fifteen people from this squatted building, according to the same police source. The building, whose construction had been abandoned, was occupied by people often in an irregular situation in . Some had fled before the police arrived.

The fire brigade (BSPP), which intervened on site in the middle of the night, reminds that in the absence of sensors, carbon monoxide “cannot be felt or seen”which can lead to death, especially when a “heating system malfunctions” at night.
