Savoie: hunters have until December 31 to declare their weapons online

If you have a weapon, you are concerned! You have until December 31 to declare it on the online platform launched in early 2022 by the government, the weapons information system (SIA). All you have to do is connect online and scan your hunting license, ID and proof of address. 9,000 hunters and sport shooters are concerned in the department of Savoie, but among them 1400 people are still not registered.

The process can be done in 20 minutes

To pick up latecomers, the prefecture offers a series of permanences in Chambéry, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Modane. This Wednesday, November 20, Gildas has just made an appointment at the prefecture offices. This hunter of the Bauges admits that he is not very comfortable with digital technology. “I tried to do it alone on the site but it didn’t work”he explains. Véronique is there to help him, she manages the digital point at the prefecture every Wednesday afternoon. “It takes 20-25 minutes, we will start by scanning your hunting license, your identity document and your proof of address”she explains. Then, you must confirm the registration by email and then the hunter receives his account number. Above, the data is not up to date! “This weapon which is registered, I sold it several years ago” Gildas is surprised. He can make the change on his own, it's just declarative. Same for the declaration of a new weapon.

A guarantee of transparency and security

This new register allows state services to have more visibility on weapons held throughout France “to reconcile the general public with this world of hunting, which is sometimes poorly known”, supports Ludovic Trautmann, chief of staff of the prefect of Savoy. Data which will also be useful for law enforcement, in the event of an intervention. “It will avoid unpleasant surprises to know which individuals have weapons in their homes” concludes Ludovic Trautmann.
