A police officer was injured during a refusal to comply in the 5th arrondissement of this Wednesday, November 27. The suspect, aged 19 and a repeat offender, was arrested before being brought before the courts for immediate appearance.

New incident in Marseille. A police officer was injured in the exercise of his duties on Wednesday November 27 in the 5th arrondissement of the Marseille city, the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters announced on X (ex-Twitter). It was around 5 p.m. when a crew from the Specialized Field Brigade (BST) spotted a young man traveling in a lane reserved for buses on Boulevard Baille.

As the two-wheeler was not insured, the agents decided to carry out an inspection of it. The driver, determined to avoid the check, then refused to stop. Fleeing, the motorized vehicle mounted a sidewalk before taking a road in the wrong direction, reports Actu 17Saturday November 30.

A few moments later, the police, who had started chasing the fugitive, managed to catch up with him in traffic a few hundred meters further on. One of the officials then got out of his vehicle and ordered the driver to stop by grabbing his arm. Determined at all costs to avoid the check, the driver drove off again before dragging the police officer for around ten meters. The two men finally fell to the ground and the suspect was arrested. As for the police officer injured during the refusal to comply, he was taken to hospital where he was given a total incapacity for work (ITT) of three days.

The 19-year-old driver of the scooter was taken into police custody. Already known to the police for acts related to drug trafficking, the young man was in possession of several narcotics packaged in small bags at the time of his arrest. Tried this Friday, November 29 before the Marseille Criminal Court, he was sentenced to two years in prison, including one year suspended, as well as an obligation to pay damages to the injured police officer. Directly incarcerated after the judgment, the spokesperson for the Alliance Police Nationale union, Rudy Manna, said:satisfied” of the sanction pronounced, while deploring a criminal sanction which could have intervened earlier due to the young man's recidivism.
