The Moselle footballers from US Thionville Lusitanos are leaving Guyana with a ticket for the 32nd finals of the French Football Cup. The Mosellans beat AS Etoile de Matoury, this Saturday, November 30, 2024, 2 goals to 0, at the Edmard Lama stadium in Rémire-Montjoly (Guyana). The Mosellans largely dominated the match, after leading their opponents throughout the match. Mohammed Amine Groune opened the scoring in the 20th minute of play and 4 minutes later, it was Ibrahim Baradji who confirmed by providing the second goal. US Thionville Lusitanos will know their opponent for the 32nd final on Monday September 2, following the draw.
The 8th round match of the French Football Cup was to pit the Aigles d'Or de Mana team (Regional 2) against US Thionvile Lusitanos (N2). However, the Federal Commission for Regulations and Litigation, referred to by AS Étoile de Matoury (Regional 1) awarded the match lost by penalty to the Aigles d'Or de Mana.
On paper, the advantage went to the Lorraine club which plays in Nationale 2. But Étoile de Matoury, champion of Guyana, had the home advantage and counted on its supporters to hold off Thionvillois. That wasn't enough.
