Prolonged cold spell: Quebec will taste it

Published on November 30, 2024 at 12:58 p.m.

Prepare yourself: the cold will dominate the four corners of La Belle Province and its stay among us will not be short… Forecast.

The slide of the Arctic air mass

December wants to start with a bang… You might have the impression that the cold took a look at the calendar and said to yourself that the time had come to make itself felt as it should in Quebec! After all, the joys of winter are for everyone. So, if an arctic air mass decides that its turn has come to have fun on a slide, who could possibly have the right to prevent it!

In fact, there is a descent of arctic air over Quebec and we are already feeling the cold associated with it. The polar vortex will slide towards the south-east of the country, therefore towards Quebec. From Monday, the mercury will settle for a prolonged stay below the freezing point.

General rule: below normal

A feeling of belonging can be so strong… Well, almost all regions of Quebec will be affected by this “wave” of below-normal temperatures! Note that only a few sectors along James Bay will be above normal.

These will therefore be the first sub-zero maximums for southern Quebec, particularly for the greater Montreal region. And you have been warned: this little winter feeling will be in your face for the next two weeks! According to current forecasts, this cold could be felt particularly well from December 6 to 8.

The change in diet with the month of November will be striking in please!

Cold worthy of the name, do you want some? Here it is!

Note that when we say that it would be a good idea to prepare physically (warm coat, mittens, hats, scarf; in short the typical winter gear), but also mentally to face this cold, this is not exaggeration. Certain sectors which have not yet been treated to their first -10° of the season could experience them… then quickly have to face their first -20°! This could particularly be the case for the Capitale-Nationale region, the weekend of December 7 and 8.
