Modernization of the La Laye Dam: discovery of the site

YOUR DAILY DAY / Eliane Barreille, president of the Department, discovered the progress of work aimed at strengthening safety and water management on the La Laye Dam flood spillway site.

-Alpes de Haute-Provence-

Yesterday, President Eliane Barreille visited the ongoing construction site of the La Laye Dam, a major project which aims to modernize the infrastructure of this strategic work for flood management. This visit was organized at the invitation of David Gehant, president of the Pays de Forcalquier-Montagne de Lure Community of Communes, and Michel Dalmasso, president of the Intercommunal Irrigation Union of the Forcalquier region. The current project involves the construction of a new spillway, essential to reinforce the safety of the dam in the face of significant floods. This project was launched after a hydrological study carried out in 1999 and a ministerial decree in 2018, which reassessed the flood flow to 694 m3/s. It aims to guarantee optimal water management and to modernize the infrastructure, the hydraulic organs of which have been updated. The work is progressing at a good pace: the earthworks of the labyrinth sill and the reception trough should be completed soon, while the dissipation basin is already 100% complete. Work on the downstream course and the riprap on the crest of the dam has also started. The end of the work is scheduled for June 2025, and the Department is supporting the project with €490,500. This project is part of an objective of reinforced security for flood management, while contributing to the sustainable management of water in the region. A vital project for the security and protection of the surrounding areas.
