The A69 hot file is ready to ignite. And the one who ignites the powder is Pierre-Yves Revol. The boss of Pierre Fabre laboratories, the main employer in the south of Tarn, threatens to “call into question local development” of the company in the event of a halt to the construction of the motorway which will link Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) to Castres (Tarn).
It was in an interview given to La Dépêche du Midi, Friday November 29, that the manager spoke on the issue, while the Toulouse administrative court must render its decision on a possible cancellation of the motorway project. The public rapporteur spoke out in favor of an environmental cancellation of the construction site authorization on November 25.
Pierre-Yves Revol said: “We cannot agree to bear all the inconveniences and incidentally the additional costs of being isolated. We will call into question our local development in favor of more urban and better served areas.” Pierre Fabre, today, has 5,300 employees in France and a turnover of 2.8 billion. The group's influence is colossal.
“The company will have no lessons to learn in terms of land use planning when, if this highway project is abandoned, it will move towards other large urban centers”asserts Pierre-Yves Revol.“We are anchored here, we fought to stay here, but we cannot continue forever to overcome the difficulties linked to being landlocked if no effort is made for this territory.”
Before the administrative court, the public rapporteur ruled “excessive” to invoke a “true situation of enclavement” from the south of the Tarn. This 53 km section of motorway should save around twenty minutes compared to the current journey. The court must rule within a fortnight.
In reaction to the comments of the leader of the Pierre Fabre laboratories, the La Voie Est Libre collective denounces a “job blackmail” on his part. In a press release also published on Friday, activists opposed to the A69 construction site refute the idea that the motorway would have “a positive impact on the economy of the Castres-Mazamet basin” and point the finger at “reprehensible methods” of Pierre Fabre by accusing him of wanting “put pressure on justice by using the lives of employees”.
Contacted by France 3 Occitanie, the management of the Pierre Fabre group confirms the comments reported by La Dépêche du midi and insists on the need for accessibility for their “service providers and collaborators”. The company states: “Not a single factory of our main French competitors is located more than 30 minutes from a motorway or dual carriageway”, eHowever, she assures that“no job will be put in danger”.
