Notre-Dame-des-Landes: erasing traces of the presence of the Zadists

La Freusière in Notre-Dame-des-Landes is nothing more than a memory for the Zadists who experienced the period of struggles and occupation.

Today, the page of the ZAD is turned

A state-owned building, located on the Freusière site in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, was demolished between Tuesday November 26 and Thursday November 28, 2024.

This building had sometimes been squatted and was the victim of a fire in 2020. Most of its roof had been destroyed for several years. Reports indicated the presence of asbestos in the farmhouse. A bus and caravans were also present on the site, unoccupied for several months, with very significant damage to the bus.

An operation prepared since the end of summer 2024

Due to the risks presented by this building in terms of safety, health and environmental protection, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, prefect of the " rel="tag">Pays de la Loire region, prefect of Loire-Atlantique, decided to initiate his demolition. He went there himself some time ago to prepare for the operation as best as possible.

Erasing traces of the presence of the Zadists

The Zadists took over this farmhouse, owned by Aéroport du Grand Ouest, in November 2013. They dreamed of making it a place of cultural creation, “la Belle Afreuze”. The bread oven in an adjoining building was called “l'Affreuz'Pizza”.

The Loire-Atlantique departmental council, owner of a large part of the land within the perimeter of the ex-Zad, regularized the situation of certain zadists by signing, in October, long leases with user associations.

The Châteaubriant Gendarmerie Company

The soldiers of the National Gendarmerie of the Châteaubriant Company were responsible for the smooth running of the operation.

After several visits to the site, the place had not been illegally occupied for several months, thus allowing demolition in good security conditions.

Excavators from construction companies, mandated by the State, were hard at work, from early Tuesday, November 26. The companies had three days to clean up and, thus, erase the traces of the Zadists.

During this demolition, the asbestos was removed before the construction equipment came into use. Unoccupied buses and caravans, which were deteriorating, were also removed.
