We must protect women and children from domestic violence

The CIDFF of Hérault has led and coordinated, since 2014, an inter-professional network to combat domestic violence in Murviel-lès-Béziers, Saint-Pons-de-Thomières, Puisserguier and Bédarieux.

This network meets every month with the aim of offering ongoing training to its members with legal monitoring and the presentation of new systems. The network lists the strengths and weaknesses of the territory in order to build on them, bring up specific needs, bring together field professionals who work directly in contact with victims from different institutions in order to learn to work together, coordinate actions and facilitate journey of victims.

The last meeting took place in Bédarieux in the presence of Aline Faucherre, clinical psychologist, trainer at the Information Center on the Rights of Women and Families of Hérault, Fleur Favre and Jordina Iglesias, facilitators and coordinators of the domestic violence network of the Hauts Cantons. Pierre Mathieu, president of the intercommunality, welcomed the speakers and the large audience.

As part of this network work, diagnostic work made it possible to highlight the difficulty for victimized mothers in having their children supported in specialized systems with professionals trained in the management of violence within the couple. To raise awareness among local stakeholders of this problem, Karen Sadlier, doctor in clinical and psychopathological psychology, spoke at length in the first part of the conference.

The idea was to raise awareness of the impact of domestic violence on children, the need to support children as direct victims of violence but also to alert professionals to the impossibility of working together. parenthood between a perpetrator of violence and a victim. Parenthood thus becomes a place for the exercise of power and the perpetuation of violence. “Protecting the mother and parenthood means protecting the child”underlined the organizers
