This is THE topic of the moment for those who regularly take the RD 47 between Saint-André-des-Eaux and Saint-Lyphard, two towns in Brière. The famous detour put in place by the Loire-Atlantique Departmental Council since November 18, 2024 is the subject of all conversations among users of this road and primarily the inhabitants of the villages along this axis. If no one questions the work at the Bauvron bend (Saint-André-des-Eaux) which aims to replace a hydraulic structure following subsidence caused by flooding and automobile traffic, it is the route to take which poses a problem.
That is no less than 24 km from the Belle-étoile roundabout, via the route de Guérande and the RD 51 to reach Saint-Lyphard, to avoid a construction site zone of around ten meters.
Degraded construction works and fires
Initially, alternating lights made it possible to travel safely in both directions on half a roadway before the construction site was set up.
“Unfortunately, on three occasions the lights set up successively by the road intervention centers of Guérande and Herbignac were vandalized,” explain the Department’s services.
There is no question then of resuming an alternation by construction fires at the risk of them experiencing the same fate.
Why such a long deviation?
In accordance with current road regulations, the Department has opted for the implementation, since Monday November 18, of this one-way traffic still accessible on the half-road, between the village of Sandun (under construction) and Saint- André, with the consequence of setting up a diversion in the other direction (from Saint-André to Saint-Lyphard) causing a significant detour, via Guérande.
“The Department operates on the departmental network for this diversion because it was not possible to use municipal roads that were closer but were too narrow and unsuitable for the flow of vehicles,” says the Departmental Council.
The diversion via Guérande
From the Belle-Etoile roundabout in Saint-André, you must therefore take the Guérande road to Villejames then take the RD 51 to go to Saint-Lyphard and take the RD 47 with a diversion into the village of Sandun.
The story could have ended there. But from December 4, things will get seriously complicated: the road will be completely closed to traffic in both directions until December 13 inclusive.
The reason? The work to replace this damaged structure with a new prefabricated frame bridge which will take place during these 10 days.
A subject that is not a municipal matter
Highly solicited by the residents concerned and sometimes very upset, the elected officials of Saint-André turned to the technicians of the Department, the departmental councilor of the canton Sylvie Goslin and Freddy Hervochon, vice-president of mobility.
What do the locals say about it?
In the meantime, a large number of residents, stuck between the Belle-étoile roundabout and Sandun, are oscillating between anger and annoyance.
“We did not receive any information in advance, neither from Stran for school transport, nor from the town hall, nor from the Department. And this is also the case for the total closure of the road until December 13. Many local residents have sent an email to the Departmental Council, which has remained unanswered… For my part, Ms. Goslin replied to me,” underlines Graziella Lévêque-Terrien, a resident of the Tréhé-Le Guiziot district who has since had her own group Whatsapp.
For daily journeys, many of them take the Génétrie route to return home.
“But until December 13, we must drop off and pick up the children at the temporary bus stop at the Belle-Etoile carpool area. As it was dark and the stop was 1.5 km away, we took the car and managed to make arrangements between our neighbors. With the total closure, we will have to take a 10 km diversion, I don’t know the route yet…” adds Graziella.
On the Department side, in addition to the official deviation, we recognize that residents return home via the RD 48 via La Madeleine so as not to have to go back to Saint-Lyphard.
“From next week's work, as the RD 47 road will be completely cut to reach Saint-Nazaire, the residents in question to reach Saint-Nazaire or coming from Saint-Nazaire will have to follow the diversion via the RD 48 and the Madeleine in both directions,” we specify at the Department.
The City, which we remember does not have jurisdiction over this work, is therefore not the decision-maker. One of the deputies, Pascal Goyal, spoke on this subject during the municipal council meeting on November 18.
A vehicle count has been underway since Monday, November 25. If the figure does not exceed 400 per hour, alternating signage could be put in place if and only if the duration of the work exceeds December 13.
