The state of the car wrecks alone evokes the violence of the impact. A Citroën Berlingo and a DS3 collided with significant kinetics on Friday, November 29 at the end of the day.
The frontal collision occurred on the RD 12, between Monistrol-sur-Loire and Bas-en-Basset, at the locality Les Bruyères de Gournier. In a slight curve, the two cars collided head-on in the left lane. The alert was given to the firefighters at 7:30 p.m.
Two motorists were involved in the accident. On board the Berlingo, a 22-year-old man, living in Bas-en-Basset, was hit in the left arm and leg. The firefighters and Smur 42 noted a wound on the tibia and suspected fractures in the femur and arm.
The impact propelled the DS3 against the shoulder of the roadside embankment. Its driver, aged 53 and residing in Monistrol-sur-Loire, found herself imprisoned inside the passenger compartment. The road rescue team cut the door to take care of her. She complained of chest and back pain and appeared to suffer from a broken wrist. She was medically treated on site by Smur 43.
With temperatures close to zero degrees and a humid atmosphere which created patches of fog, it was not possible to evacuate the victims by helicopter. They both joined the services of the North hospital in Saint-Étienne aboard fire ambulances.
The rescue system, placed under the orders of Lieutenant Éric Boudet, included 16 men including a nurse and a firefighter doctor. Two emergency medical teams were sent by the Samu de la Loire and Haute-Loire. The gendarmerie has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.
