The discontent continues. Nearly 500 farmers from Moselle, Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle were on the roads to once again express their anger.
The meeting was the initiative of Young Farmers 57 and the FDSEA. Having left Metz Expo this morning, the demonstrators arrived by tractor in front of the prefecture around 2 p.m., notably to speak with the prefect. Before that, several stops: at the Chamber of Agriculture, at the MSA (agricultural social security), the DREAL or even at the Metz town hall to display municipal signs.
Among the reasons for their anger: the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. According to them, the treaty would expose their sector to additional competition, while the period is already complicated for some due to successive climatic or health crises. Farmers expect firmer opposition from the French state in order to encourage other countries to refuse this agreement.
But being fed up is also and above all linked to “administrative standards, ever more numerous and restrictive”. The breeders present also regret a lack of support for issues related to bluetongue, leading to heavy financial losses for some. The FDSEA57, however, welcomes the commitment of the Grand Est Region having released an envelope of nearly 7 million euros, in part to support them in the management of this health problem.
