Around sixty doctors recall in a forum that “Corsica is the only region in France that still does not have a PET scan (just like a university hospital), even though 1,800 new cancers are diagnosed there each year. reports Friday November 29 France Bleu RCFM to whom the forum was addressed.
The 57 health professionals who signed the forum deplore the fact that the island is still not equipped with this positron emission tomography (PET or PET scan in English) tool, although it is considered “unavoidable” in the diagnosis of the disease. “This tool is efficient. It has become essential in the diagnosis, monitoring, and therapeutic evaluation of cancers and other pathologies”insist doctors while cancer is the leading cause of death in Corsica.
Doctors also point out that providing such equipment “would make it possible to reduce the travel of Corsicans for medical reasons and the constraints generated, sometimes sources of forgoing care”. A necessity, therefore, to “tend towards equal access to care for all Corsicans”insists the document.
