middle school students tried to transform their daily lives into poetry

Monday, November 25, at Marie-Curie college, students from the three third-year classes met in three sessions, throughout the day, to complete a writing workshop project, entitled “Writing oneself in poetry”, conducted with Maxence Amiel, poet and editor at Éditions de la Crypte in Hagetmau. Under the cover of Frédérique Baradel, principal of the college, supervised by Florence , librarian professor and culture referent at the college, by Mesdames Chaudon and Castagné, literature teachers, the young people in each class benefited from six hours of workshop each in fifteen days .

The first hour was dedicated to discovering the publishing profession from a somewhat specific angle, since it was about contemporary poetry. In this context, Maxence Amiel offered the students three writing exercises inspired by readings proposed according to three themes: an autobiographical poem, a “poeticized” diary, a letter addressed to themselves in twenty years. Their writings, reworked and selected, will be the subject of a collection in digital format “which will however remain an in-house production of the establishment and not a real edition”, explained Florence Dreux.

Releasing an emotion

This day focused on recalling the main tools for writing an important fact, per day or not. It's not always easy to poeticize, for example, “I survived 2 hours of maths”, or even “huge school chores” but, with strong metaphors, comparisons, allegories or other personifications, “you can get one out of it.” question, a little emotion,” insisted Maxence Amiel.

These three sessions therefore concluded the first stage of a year of discovery of the main players in the book chain. Secondly, next spring, this project will be extended by the “Young people in bookstores” system which will allow students to discover the profession of bookseller with Charlotte Weinmann, partner of the Morcenese bookstore La Lanterne. During this visit, middle school students will also receive a book check worth 30 euros.
