He is an emblematic figure of the small village of Houeilles near Casteljaloux which risks being missed a lot. After 38 years of service in the restaurant industry, Sylvie Moix is going into retirement.
Born in Bourges in Cher, she retired on November 1st. She had arrived in Lot-et-Garonne with her companion Jeannot who was originally from Tarbes and wanted to be closer to his family. They opened the hotel bar restaurant “The Landais” July 1, 1985.
A life dedicated to catering
Initially Sylvie welcomed customers and did the service while Jeannot worked behind the stove. Their traditional and family restaurant offered specialties of local products: garbure, sweetbreads, wood pigeons and wild boar.
In 2010 they stopped the hotel business and devoted themselves to catering with a small change: they reversed the roles of Sylvie in the kitchen and Jeannot in the service. Unfortunately Jeannot died on April 30, 2024 after almost 38 years of service alongside Sylvie.
Fallen in love with Lot-et-Garonne
Sylvie, who arrived from the center of France, really appreciated the Lot-et-Garonne : people with strong personalities, their outspokenness, their freedom of spirit, gastronomy, culture and… the patois!
Very quickly adopted by the inhabitants, it became their confidantespecially with the elders with whom she shared their sorrows and their joys as well as the history of the past of Houeillès, of the glorious time of gemmage, Marceau among many others, was the living memory of the village.
In the large room the card games were going well, they were hosted in patois, which greatly amused Sylvie! The easy verb and informality, the nicknames of everyone surprised Sylvie because this style was not used in her corner of Cher. His great discovery was the bands: the good-natured atmosphere, the lively music from home captivated her. The green setting of the Landes de Gascogne is a haven of peace for her.
This remains between us but Sylvie will not return to Bourges, she plans to fully enjoy her retirement with her children Jessica and Sébastien, her grandchildren Lili, Nolan, Lyssandro, their families and her loyal friends.
