Both were convicted of committing a series of burglaries, between October 8 and 11, 2024, in bakeries, pharmacies and pizzerias in Landes and Gironde. The first, aged 23, who already has eight convictions on his criminal record, received thirty months of imprisonment with continued detention; for the second, just 18 years old, already sentenced twice by the children's court, it will be eighteen months in prison, including nine months suspended for two years. The fixed prison sentence, less than one year, is amended: the young man will have to wear an electronic bracelet for nine months.
Complicated life paths
Already convicted in 2019 for aggravated assembly theft, the 23-year-old is the father of a little boy. “My child lives with his mother. Every month I pay child support. » For his last professional experience, he worked as a cook. “I resigned because a colleague behaved badly towards an autistic colleague. He wasn't worried, I left. » The condemned man also admits to having “consumed quite a bit of cannabis and alcohol”.
As for the young adult, he was cut off from his father particularly early and formed a very close relationship with his mother. He dropped out of school and was followed by the local Mission. A hashish user, he claims to have “stopped this month”.
Within a few days, when he had just turned 18, he would not have had to appear before this judicial court, but rather before a juvenile court. At the hearing, his lawyer wanted to raise the following question: “What does it mean to be an adult? » While adding his thoughts: “Finally, becoming an adult takes a long time. It’s an everyday construction. Sometimes you have people who are 40 years old who appear and who have not become adults. We're not talking about someone with four or five pages of criminal record. We are not dealing with a potential offender. »
