The International Agricultural Showit is an essential showcase for farmers, but also for institutions. In 2024, for its 60the edition, the event attracted 603,652 visitors to Paris. So when a Department announces that it will not make the trip, this is not trivial.
This is the case of Gerswhich will therefore not be present from February 22 to March 2, 2025 Porte de Versailles. The department won dozens of medals and other signs of recognition during the last edition.
“As an institution”
The announcement was made by Philippe Dupouy, the president of the Department, during the annual session of the Chamber of Agriculture on Friday November 29, 2024, at the Château de Mons.
SO why give up? “Faced with a tense economic context marked by state financial restrictionsthe Departmental Council of Gers, like many other Departments, is forced to make difficult budgetary decisions,” explains the Department. “It is in this context that the Department decided not to be present, as an institution,” continues the departmental council, specifying that the producers, “ambassadors of the Gers”, will be very present to “promote the Gers region, with the repeated financial support of the Department of Gers”.
“Unwavering support” for farmers
“This institutional absence does not in any way reflect a disengagement from the agricultural sectorat the heart of Gers’ identity and economy,” reassures the council. On the contrary, the Department wishes to reaffirm its “unwavering support for its farmers and breeders through concrete actions”.
Among them, support for the Gers producers’ stand. A financial contribution has been allocated to guarantee their attendance at the show. But also specific aid for breeders. The Department will thus support the Gers breeders who will mobilize to present their animals.
Assistance will also be provided to Mirande high school students who will compete for the International Agricultural Education Trophy. Furthermore, in partnership with Riscle wine and Beaulieu-Lavacant agricultural high schoolsa communication campaign will be carried out to “highlight these key training courses and their essential contributions to the Gers agricultural world”.
The Gers will still be talked about
The departmental council will also be present virtually throughout the show through its various communication networks…
“In this period of transformation and challenges, the Departmental Council remains mobilized alongside Gers farmers. Our absence at the Salon de l'Agriculture in 2025 is a choice of reasonsbut our support for the women and men who keep Gers agriculture alive remains obvious and a priority,” concludes Philippe Dupouy.
