Social plan at Auchan: Here is the list of the first 19 hypermarkets which will reduce their size in 2025

Faced with financial difficulties, Auchan has drawn up a list of the first 19 stores affected by the reduction in commercial space.

On Tuesday November 5, 2024, Auchan announced a vast social plan which provides for the closure of three warehouses, as well as around ten stores throughout . In total, 2,389 positions will be eliminated. Three hypermarkets will close their doors in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), Woippy () and Bar-le-Duc (Meuse).

Auchan management's plan also includes the reduction in the commercial surface area of ​​hypermarkets summarized in a slogan: “Cap 8000”, as in 8000m2 maximum.

This Friday, LSA, the magazine specializing in consumption, revealed the list of the first premises affected by this austerity cure knowing that ultimately, 60 out of 119 hypermarkets of the distributor will be affected and will see their surface area decrease by 25% over four years.

The list of stores concerned

In 2025, 19 hypermarkets will see their retail space decline. These are the stores in (Pas-de-), -Lac (), Boulogne (Pas-de-Calais), (Nord), Châteauroux (Indre), Domérat ( Allier), Illkirch (Bas-Rhin), Laxou (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Pontet (), -La-Vallée (Seine-et-Marne), Mont Saint-Martin (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Olivet (), Petite-Forêt (North), Semecourt (Moselle), Saint-Jean de la Ruelle ( Loiret) and Saint-Priest (Rhône), Saint-Quentin (Aisne), Villars () and Viry Noureuil (Aisne).

In the Pyrénées-Orientales, where Auchan is present in and Latour-Bas-Elne, the Porte d'Espagne hypermarket is affected by the social plan since 14 positions should be eliminated. A reduction of 15,000m2 of commercial space was also announced by the Perpignan unions this summer. It does not seem to be implemented for 2025.

As a reminder, the reduction in commercial space should mainly affect the non-food sections of stores.
