Since 1873, drunkenness on public roads has been punishable by a fine of up to €150. In Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines), it will be necessary to count double from December 1, 2024. The amount of this fine was thus calculated based on a 90-minute intervention by three agents “at the charged hourly rate of €33” by municipal police officer. Or €150, rounding up. The municipality hopes in particular that this new measure will help deter risky behavior on public roads.

However, his decision was not unanimous. Audrey Hallier, an elected opposition official, expressed her disagreement and asserted that she had no “I don’t want a society where the police are paid for”. She also recalled that these interventions were few in number each year.
