Monday, November 25, a man was arrested at Grenoble as part of the investigation into two cold cases in Isère. The first dates back to 1988, with the disappearance of Nathalie Boyer, found dead on the side of a railway track. The second concerns Leila Afif, killed by gunfire in 2000 near Lyon. The two tragedies occurred in neighboring towns. This individual in his sixties was identified as a potential suspect thanks to DNA tests. This arrest could finally shed light on the tragedies which have shaken the region.
A long road to the truth
The case resurfaced after extensive investigations, while the victims' families have been waiting for answers for decades. The Boyer family's lawyer expressed relief, while emphasizing the importance of shedding light on these cases. “We cannot announce it to them like that, 36 years later, when they have lived 36 years without this truth,” she said on the microphone of France 3 Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes. Investigators continue to follow new leads to try to unravel the exact circumstances of these tragedies.
