oaks shaped for the framework of Notre-Dame de

Notre-Dame de Cathedral will be inaugurated in a week and among the 250 French companies which participated in its reconstruction, there was “Wood Sur Mesure”, a sawmill located in Wimy, between Hirson and La Capelle. This company was selected with 3 other French companies to supply beams for the reconstruction of the framework of Notre-Dame de Paris.

For Philippe Seynave, the manager of this sawmill, beyond the pride of having participated in the “construction site of the century”, it was also an opportunity to show his know-how and his ability to respond to prestigious orders.

Very few sawmills in the Hauts-de- region were able to accommodate these seven logs of exceptional dimensions. A suitable sawing bench had to be created especially for the occasion, in order to be able to shape these long beams according to the models and recommendations imposed by the Monuments of France.

These seven large oaks were used to reconstruct the spire of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, using the techniques of the architect Viollet-Le-Duc, in the 19th century…
