Côte-d’Or. A shortage of Christmas trees due to drought? “It’s nonsense! », respond the producers

“The town hall of Pouilly-en-Auxois is deprived of Christmas trees for the end-of-year celebrations,” our colleagues from Bleu Bourgogne indicated this Tuesday. “In a message addressed to traders […]Mayor Eric Piesvaux explains that all the nurseries contacted are victims of a shortage of fir trees, in any case, those of the desired size, i.e. between 1 meter and 1 meter 40″, continues the radio. “And the explanation comes from the drought which affected these trees at one point in their growth. The town hall therefore decided to give up and replace these spruces with a few branches. […]. » This Thursday, we wanted to check if there was really a shortage of small fir trees this year because of the drought.

“No shortage of fir trees, whatever the size”

Contacted by telephone several times, Mayor Eric Piesvaux has not yet responded to our request. Contacted to find out if such a problem could concern other municipalities in Côte-d'Or, Ludovic Rochette, the departmental president of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) told us that he had not had such lifts. In the process, Jean-Christophe Bonoron, of the French Association of Natural Christmas Tree Producers (AFSNN), himself a fir producer in Montsauche-les-Settons, in the upper Morvan, clearly explained that he There was “no shortage of fir trees, whatever the size”. “We had a summer of rain rather than sunshine,” he says. “Tree growth has been good this year. We have not had any production problems. » And added: “If the mayor of Pouilly needs fir trees, we can provide him with them. »

“If the mayor of Pouilly calls us, we would sell him some”

Same story at Aiguilles du Morvan, a fir tree production company located in Champeau-en-Morvan. “A shortage this year is nonsense! » exclaims Sébastien Royer, the co-manager. “Production was rather good this year, with rather humid weather conditions, which was favorable for the fir tree. » And he also clarified: “Even if a large part of the trees have already been sold, if the mayor of Pouilly called us, we would sell him some. »

Frédéric Naudet: “I don’t understand…”

Another major company in the world of Christmas trees, at Pépinières Naudet (Leuglay), director Frédéric Naudet indicates that talking about a shortage “does not make sense”. “I don’t understand… There was no production problem. And there are many fir producers in the Morvan… If the mayor of Pouilly wants fir trees, he must contact the right people, and on time. Maybe he did it too late…” For Frédéric Naudet, it would be “a shame” if there were no Christmas trees this year in Pouilly.
